Well what a season we had, after Ken stepped down after 2 games for personal reasons we had a reshuffle of the management, With Myself taking on the Managers position with Rob Djemal. The arrangement seemed to work well with Rob concentrating on running the club and myself concentrating on the managing and coaching side of things.
After a bad start we needed to turn things around quickly, which is exactly what we did. We went on to win the next 4 games before a slight hiccup at Cottered bought a good run to a halt, they had personal problems at the club at the time so It wasn't the best time to play them.
After this small set back we went on to win our next 4 games before facing top of the table Baldock Cannon in quite possible the game of the season. Unfortunately we lost 2-3 on the day but I was so proud of the performance we gave it really felt like we had won the game. So off we went on another run of 5 wins before we lost again to an experienced Mangrove team who caught us on a bad day with a lot of players missing.
Of the last few games we did enough to finish 3 rd after losing out in the crucial 2 nd vs 3 rd game against County Hall Rangers res.
The cup runs were good notable the penalty shootout we won with 5 superbly taking penalties & the league cup where we went as far as the semi-finals before blowing our chance.
We achieved well this season but I still feel we could of done better. The first thing we put right was our defending we didn't look good at the back but we grew in confidence to finish with the best defensive record in all 4 Divisions. Our home ground we made our fortress only losing there once all season & only letting 9 goals in along the way. We played so well at home it came as a shock on the few occasions I actually saw the ball in the back of our net.
On the whole I was proud of the way we played as a team and how well everyone got on with each other, I was told managing a side is hard work, when you have a great bunch of lads like this who are willing to listen and do as asked it simply becomes a pleasure.
I can't heap enough praise on the players for this season and can't really single anyone out as everyone contributed and played their part in an excellent season.
All I can say for now is well done to everyone involved this season superb effort. I am thoroughly looking forward to next season where I am sure we will carry on as we left off and drive the team further forward and onto silverware.
