match report
Broxbourne Badgers vs Saracens
After last week’s bitter disappointment Saracens were back again trying to find that elusive goal. With some last minute changes due to an emergency at work Woody was unable to play & Fordham injured so we reshuffled and welcomed Chris Payne back into the fold.

Saracens started off at a high pace and immediately put Badgers under pressure, with a succession of 8 corners in a row and 4 free kicks we were still looking for a goal, a few good saves and some misses saw all chances again go begging.

The game opened up nicely with Saracens bossing the match and restricting Badgers to long range efforts. Our breakthrough came after Dan was fouled by the keeper, the spot kick was awarded and Andy Djemal was cool enough to tuck the kick away. 0-1 35Mins.

Saracens had a few half chances to go in front with Rob beating his man and pulling a fine save from the keeper; Lee at the other end was largely untroubled but did save well from 10 yards. Then after a mistake up top the ball broke back and the pass back was missed and out for a corner. The first ball was cleared only for the second to fall kindly and a great shot saw the score levelled 1-1 41Mins.

The second half got underway and Saracens were looking to press on, after another fine save Saracens were caught by a quick break which resulted in a clean shot and good finish for Badgers 2-1 65Mins.

Monty was replaced by Terry after another good shift. Badgers continued to cause us problems and made plenty of good chances themselves.

At this point we looked worried and tried to force our way back into the game, the killer blow came after a clear offside was not given and the player already in 5 yards was able to run through and finish 3-1 78Mins.

Saracens still aggrieved were now leaving space everywhere trying to get back into the game and only a string of brilliant saves by Lee including a great 1 handed stop of a deflection kept the score down. Badgers continued looking for more while we tried to get a goal back but found their keeper in fine form to deny Rob again.
The game was killed off in injury time after a ball over the top was met and lobbed over the advancing Lee in goal. 4-1 93Mins.

Manager Martin Southall said “Today was typical of what is happening recently, we seem to be unable to buy a goal at the moment and have still not scored from open play for a while, you can see it is effecting the players, we need to kick on and get some goals to get this monkey off our backs. The chances we are missing are criminal really but all we can do is keep plugging away. We simply have to carry our play from the training ground onto the pitch and finish in the same manner, the second half we faded off very quickly and Badgers ran riot. Again there will have to be changes next week in an effort to find these goals from somewhere; I know the players are capable of it, just need that bit more belief and confidence to take the shots on in the matches.”
